Requirements include:

  • Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH) approved CHW Training
    • The NvCHWA Course is approved!
  • Signed Code of Ethics
  • Certification fee of $75

Become a Certified Community Health Worker II

Requirements include:

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Nevada Division of Public And Behavioral Health (DPBH) approved CHW training
    • The NvCHWA Course is approved!
  • 44 hours of approved continuing education:
    • 20 hours general CEUs
    • 6 hours of ethics trainings
    • 8 hours of mental health (MH) training
    • 9 hours of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) training
    • 1 hour HIPPA training
  • 500 hours of relevant work experience (see CHW Roles and Sub-roles document)
  • 50 hours of closely supervised experience in CHW competency areas
  • Signed code of ethics
  • Certification fee of $150

The Nevada Community Health Worker Association does not oversee the Certified Community Health Worker I or Certified Community Health Worker II designation or application process. Nevada Certification Board is responsible for processing, reviewing and making the final determinations on submitted applications. Nevada Certification Board is a partner and worked closely with the Nevada Community Health Worker Association in designing the certification. The Nevada Certification Board (NCB) provides the state of Nevada with a community and behavioral health workforce that is well trained, educated, and skilled in providing appropriate services.

As an affiliate member board of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC), NCB ensures the public’s safety, enhances public funds accountability, and provides practitioner benefits, by applying rigorous standards for the professional certification and renewal of community and behavioral health workers.
